At 6:58 in the morning of May 1st, the first of the four Mercedes-Benz cars commenced the race, with driver Juan Manuel Fangio at the wheel. Thanks to his tenacity and exceptional dexterity he crossed the finish line 32 minutes after winning champion Mercedes-Benz driver Stirling Moss.
